Simikot Airport upgrade Home / News

The existing runway at Simikot Airport in the district of Humla (Karnali Zone) has been fully black-topped and extended by 200 feet, making the total length of the airport approximately 2,000 feet.

With this new development, the airport has seen an increase of flights by about 80%, and very few flight cancellations even in the monsoon. The airport at an elevation of 9,246 feet receives about 10 aircrafts from seven domestic carriers – Tara, Sita, Goma, Makalu, Kashtamandap, Yeti and Nepal Airlines, on a daily basis.

There are no direct flights from Kathmandu to Simikot. Passengers have to first take a flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and take another flight from Nepalgunj to Simikot. The possibility of getting to Simikot from Kathmandu same day would depend on the arrival time in Nepalgunj. Since most Nepalgunj-Simikot flights leave early morning, travellers decide to stay overnight in Nepalgunj and take morning flights to Simikot.

A round trip to Simikot from Kathmandu would roughly cost NRs. 30,500 for foreigners. Tourists are advised to contact local travel agencies or offices of the airlines for updated flight schedules and for booking tickets. Information about helicopter services can also be obtained from local travel agencies.
